Club Active presents Longevity Evening this May 2022! This event will be packed to the brim with clinically-proven research on a variety of topics. Hear from keynote speaker Dr. Ross Walker – as he discusses preventative cardiology and heart health. Listen as Dr. Sam Manger presents fascinating research regarding lifestyle medicine and longevity, and esteemed Dr. Mia Schaumberg discusses cognitive health and exercise. This evening will further equip you with the knowledge to CHANGE THE WAY YOU AGE.

Preventative Cardiology & Heart Health By Dr. Ross Walker

Dr Ross Walker is an eminent practicing cardiologist with a passion for people and health, with 40 years of experience as a Clinician. For the past 20 years, Dr. Walker has been focusing on preventative cardiology and is one of Australia’s leading preventative health experts. Considered one of the world’s best keynote speakers and life coaches, Dr. Walker is the author of seven best-selling books and a regular health presenter in the Australian Media. Dr. Walker also appears weekly on the national Macquarie Radio Network and the Super Radio Network. Dr. Walker also has his own national radio show, Healthy Living, for the past 8 years. Dr. Walker runs the Sydney Heart Health Clinic in Lindfield on Sydney’s North Shore, a clinic that focuses on all aspects of non-invasive and preventative cardiology.

Dr. Ross Walker currently holds a position as:

  • Chief Medical Officer for the VTN Group.
  • Chief Cardiologist for the Miskawaan Health Group, an integrative health service in South East Asia.
  • President of the Gut Foundation of Australia.
  • Patron for Heart Support Australia.
  • Non-executive director for MGC Pharmaceuticals, a company researching, developing, and marketing medical cannabis around the world.

Lifestyle Medicine & Longevity By Dr. Sam Manger

Dr. Sam Manger is a highly esteemed General Practitioner in private practice, Academic Lead and Senior Lecturer, Postgraduate suite (Master, Graduate Diploma, Graduate Certificate) in Lifestyle Medicine at James Cook University College of Medicine and Dentistry, Advisor to the RACGP Shaping a Healthy Australia project, Ambassador for Equally Well Australia, President of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine (ASLM) and host of The GP Show podcast thegpshow.com.  In 2021 he was awarded RACGP General Practitioner of the Year, QLD, for his commitment to the field of medicine and general practice.

Dr. Manger’s current endeavors include:

  • Rural GP in private practice
  • Clinical Research Fellow at the Mind and Neuroscience Thompson Institute
  • Senior Lecturer and Medical Educator with James Cook University (JCU) College of Medicine and Dentistry
  • Vocational Medical Officer with Queensland Health and host of The GP Show podcast.

In his spare time, Dr. Manger studies and practices functional movement, martial arts, the Wim Hof technique, permaculture, and bush survival. Check out more on Dr Manger and his podcast!

Cognitive Health & Exercise by Dr. Mia Schaumberg 

Dr. Mia Schaumberg specialist areas include exercise physiology, healthy ageing, neurodegenerative diseases, and the influence of exercise on cognitive function. Dr. Schaumberg has a keen interest in female athlete health, bone health, body composition, and exercise endocrinology. In collaboration with the Bartlett Laboratory at the Queensland Brain Institute, Dr. Schaumberg established the UQ Centre for Exercise and Healthy Brain Ageing, which facilitates ongoing research into the effect of exercise on cognitive health in older adults.

Dr. Schaumberg investigates exercise-related neurophysiological changes that are invaluable in understanding how to improve health and slow, prevent, or even reverse cognitive disease progression in older adults.  By combining measures of physiological and functional fitness, cognitive function, blood biochemistry, epigenetics, and multimodal magnetic resonance imaging of the brain. Dr. Schaumberg’s primary research methods include clinical exercise training interventions, the assessment of fitness (cardiopulmonary exercise testing), quantitative measures of body composition and bone health (DXA and pQCT), quantitative measures of cognitive health, and blood-based biomarkers.

Dr. Schaumberg will offer invaluable specialist expertise regarding the importance of exercise and cognitive health to live better, longer.
