Club Active gym provides an allied health clinic with accredited exercise physiologists, dietitians and physiotherapists in a safe, non-intimidating environment. Your GP can provide an allied health referral for Medicare bulk-billing with a Chronic Diseases Management (CDM) plans. We also work with NDIS, DVA and Work Cover.
An exercise physiologist will provide one-on-one consultation from which an exercise prescription plan will be created specifically for your health requirements.
What is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist?
The difference between an accredited exercise physiologist and a personal trainer
Accredited exercise physiologists are university-qualified allied health professionals who specialise in the delivery of safe and effective exercise interventions for people with acute and chronic medical conditions, injuries or disabilities.
During their degree, exercise physiologists are required to complete over 500-hours of placement, helping them to develop an in-depth understanding of the human body and how it responds to exercise. In comparison, personal training courses can range from six-weeks to six-months and focus primarily on healthy population groups.
Common conditions treated by exercise physiologists at Club Active
Musculoskeletal disorders like chronic lower back pain or hip and knee replacements are common.
One of the most prevalent issues we treat at Club Active is Osteoporosis, which is a disease that makes bones become brittle, leading to a higher risk of breaks than in normal bone. Strength training is a proven way to maintain and improve bone mineral density and decrease the likelihood of suffering a fracture.
There are two main benefits to working with an exercise physiologist
All of our exercise prescriptions are evidence-based. This means that our interventions are derived from scientific research. We don’t follow the newest Instagram workout or “in” thing, rather we use proven scientific reasoning to justify our actions. This ensures a safer working environment and better clinical outcomes.
Education. When we say education, we are talking about you! An exercise physiologist won’t yell orders like you are at bootcamp, or tell you to “push harder” when you just can’t push anymore. Our aim is to educate you about your body and give you the skills to move efficiently and effectively. You are the leader of each session- an exercise physiologist is there to guide and support you on your journey to self-management.
What a consultation session with an exercise physiologist involves.
The first session will be an opportunity for you and the exercise physiologist to get to know each other and build a trusting relationship. Each consultation is specific to the person, so they can vary slightly.
An initial introductory consultation will consist of taking a medical history, physical assessment (to address any movement deficits) and developing an exercise plan for the individual.
The follow-up consultation session will be a program run through, where the exercise physiologist guides you through a personalised exercise program specific to your needs and goals.
How an exercise physiologist can assist you at the Club Active gym.
The Club Active team understands the gym can be a very intimidating place, especially if you haven’t been to one before. Often, this is due to having no idea what all the crazy machines do or how they work… but fear not!
By working closely with our exercise physiologists, you will have an exercise program designed for your specific needs. You will be shown how to use the equipment and educated on how you can progress your program. And if you forget anything, our friendly staff are always happy to help you out.
Our facilities also run group fitness classes, which can be a great way to meet new people and is a perfect introduction into the gym environment, as you will be under the constant supervision of one of our exercise physiologists.
Club Active wants people to know there is a health and fitness centre where they can feel comfortable, enjoy themselves and get expert guidance through a range of health conditions from allied health professionals.
